“The Thing” is a science fiction horror movie that is set in the Antarctica and follows the members of an American research outpost fighting for their lives after discovering an alien parasitic life form that is capable of assimilating any living organism.

Science fiction horror movies have always played a key role in society’s concept of the unknown. Science Fiction is a great source of realistic, logical and believable fiction. We don’t know what’s going to happen next, and that makes it all the more exciting. A lot of times we’ll get used to things, and then something else will be introduced that takes us by surprise and we’ll be on the edge of our seats. This is exactly what people felt when they first saw “The Thing” in 1982 and has since then become a cult classic. The Thing was released in the United States on June 25, 1982, and received critical acclaim, but was a box office flop.

You see, what we’re talkin’ about here is an organism that imitates other life-forms, and it imitates ’em perfectly. When this thing attacked our dogs it tried to digest them… absorb them, and in the process shape its own cells to imitate them. This for instance. That’s not dog. It’s imitation. We got to it before it had time to finish — Dr. Blair.

The movie is known for its use of tension, mystery and a claustrophobic setting. The movie relies heavily on suspense and quite effectively also makes use of the idea of paranoia. Everyone is fighting to not let the other person know they are “The Thing”. The performance from the cast is top notch and Kurt Russell delivers a fantastic performance that is still remembered to this day. I became his die-hard fan after this movie.

I know I’m human. And if you were all these things, then you’d just attack me right now, so some of you are still human. This thing doesn’t want to show itself; it wants to hide inside an imitation. It’ll fight if it has to, but it’s vulnerable out in the open. If it takes us over, then it has no more enemies, nobody left to kill it. And then it’s won — MacReady

Masterfully directed by John Carpenter, “The Thing” is one of the most enduring, influential, and widely appreciated science fiction horror movies and still to this day is cited by many renowned critics around the world as the best science fiction horror movie of all time. This film is different from other films because it has a unique film style is full of twists and turns throughout the. In this movie, there is a twist that makes it hard for the audience to keep up with what is going on. The horror in this film is not just because of the alien creature that is trying to kill everyone. The horror comes from the suspense and mystery of what is going on. For a movie that was released 41 years ago, it still succeeds in holding your attention and the practical effects used in the movie are nothing short of spectacular.
